Vacancies for NVQ assessors exist nationwide and in most sectors.
The job of the NVQ assessor is to assess anyone working towards their NVQ, ensuring that they meet all the necessary standards required.
An assessor may work for a training provider or educational establishment. They may also be based within a particular company where NVQs are taken by members of staff, although this would normally tend to be a larger company that has the resources to support such a scheme.
Any potential NVQ assessor will need some experience and qualifications:
You should ideally have one or more qualifications in your particular sector - at least to the level of the peiople you will be assessing.
You will also be required to hold an assessment qualification - typically this would be the 'Level 3 in Assessing Candidates Using a Range of Methods - A1'.
Such assessor qualifications can be achieved at universities, colleges or training centres. Part of the qualification will involve actually assessing NVQ course candidates.
As a qualified NVQ assessor you would then, amongst other things, be responsible for:
• Delivering NVQ course programmes and workshops
• Assessing NVQ candidates at work
• Examining candidates portfolios
• Posing questions to candidates on how they would deal with any particular situation which may unusually differ from their expected routine
• Providing support, guidance and advice to any candidate who has not achieved the required standard to qualify
• Keeping a detailed record of each candidate's progress and achievements
